We’ve been featured!

What a honour! The Weekend Witness has featured our Enchanted Forest Styled Engagement shoot with the lovely Luis Dos Santos and Nicole Carreira in an article. Jacki Bruniquel, you are amazing! Thank you for the opportunity to get involved and play.

This is still one of my favorite styled shoots because it was such an exciting challenge, and because my creative boundaries were challenged and expanded. Jax and I dreamed up this enchanted, romantic shoot over the course of two weeks; locating it at Bishop’s Seat in Eshowe’s Dlinza Forest - the ideal setting for enchantment. What a joy to get to work with both a truly lovely couple and some of our favorite friends in the wedding industry.

A very big thank you to the dream team:

And most of all, thank you to Luis Dos Santos and Nicole Carreira for being such stars and putting up with our creative antics! Blessings to you both for your wedding in February, I can’t wait to see your wedding pics!

I love my clients!

Oh my goodness, my heart is so full! It is a couple like this that makes me adore what I do with all of my heart. Clea and Dave, from the bottom of my merrily beating heart, THANK YOU for the honor of getting to be a little part of your incredibly special day! You are just wonderful and your kind words too generous. I thank you both and wish you a life time of beauty, adventure, blessings and joy.

Hi Carolyn

Before we leave for honeymoon, we just wanted to take the time to thank you for being part of our big day!

From the moment we met you we knew you were special! I can honestly say I have never met such a sweet, bubbly and kind-hearted person with such a passion for what they do! You were like a breath of fresh air on days when the stress of planning a wedding was getting us down.

On the day of our wedding, it really put my mind at ease just knowing you were there! And thank you for everything from sticking your hand up my dress (haha), to running around trying to find a chalk pen and making sure we had a bottle of champagne on our photoshoot!

We truly wish you every success for your business Carolyn - keep on making brides smile, surrounding yourself with flowers and love and being part of one of the most important days of a couple’s life.

Lots of love, champers and cupcakes

Dave & Clea at Netherwood Part 2

Part 2 of this misty, wonderful, warm and loving Greek / Portuguese / Jewish celebration follows below, beautifully captured by Knot Just Pics! I love how the importance of family and friendship was deeply honoured at this wedding. Dave and Clea had photographs of their parents and grandparents on their wedding days blown up and put on display on the back wall of the venue. I loved the sumptuous feast feast which included possibly the most delicious lamb shank I have ever had the delight of tasting - thank you CHC. And I loved the laughter, the joy, the dancing and very deep love that was felt throughout this beautiful wedding.

Dave and Clea, all my love and congratulations to you both. Here is to a lifetime of joy, laughter, friendship and love.

Enjoy friends!

Dave & Clea at Netherwood Part 1

Dave and Clea are warm and kind, with the most beautiful mutual respect and love for one another, for their friends and for their families. It was such a joy to be a part of this special day. It was beautiful!

From the outset, Dave and Clea had a clear vision of the purpose of their day - to make the most beautiful promise to one another, witnessed by their most special friends and family. They didn’t sweat the small stuff, they chose simple, pretty decor which complimented their personalities, and they enjoyed both their planning process and their special day.

I don’t think I’ve been a part of a wedding where the speeches made me this tearful. The word of love and joy that were shared were beautiful … and once formalities were over the dancing was AMAZING! I swear I have some hidden Mediterranean/Middle East blood in my veins, I love Portuguese / Greek / Jewish weddings!!!

Enjoy these sensational pics by Knot Just Pics. Part one of this beautiful, happy wedding starts below. Part two coming soon! Enjoy friends xxx

I love my clients!

It is letters like this one that make me love what I do even more:

Dearest Carolyn,

When I received my wedding photos back I was not surprised to find this photographic evidence of just exactly how you go beyond the call of duty. When other peoples fingers were just too nervous to do up a myriad of tiny crystal buttons your calm demeanor was just perfect!

This clearly shows just how you seemed to be everywhere JUST at the right moment. I remember that on my wedding day every time I seemed to need an extra pair of hands you were there. When I asked family or friends if something had been done the answer was always a resounding “Yes Jacs Carolyn did it long ago”

You thought of things before I did and you ensured you did them how I would have done them myself which is the best thing about an awesome wedding co-ordinator in my books. As a bride to be able to leave someone to get on with things without having added stress to an already highly emotional day is priceless.

Once again thank you for all your hands on work at our wedding, your special touches and just your joyous presence which added a touch of magic to our day.

Jacs

Jacqui and Matt, from the bottom of my heart thank you for the joy of being a very little part of your beautiful and special day! See their bold and happy wedding day here. A big thank you to Kate van Onselen from Studio KOVO for capturing this special moment.

What a beautiful way to wrap up this week! Such a blessed heart x

We’ve been blogged!

We have had the lovely honour of being featured on Midlandsmusings, a seriously lovely little blog (one of my all time favorites) by my very talented friend Keri Bainborough, which celebrates all things simply lovely about life in the Midlands. Being a Midlands girl myself, this is a blog which resonates with my soul!

Brett and Zara’s stunning Netherwood wedding cracked the nod for this happy feature. Photography by the incomparable Jacki Bruniquel, wedding flowers and decor by KZN legend Kerry Dinkleman (who also happened to do Keri’s wedding last year), hair and make up by Kym and styling by Adore Weddings.

Zara and Brett’s sensational wedding included no less than 500 wrought iron birds suspended from the ceiling of the venue … one of my favorite decor aspects from this wedding! Images also include some pretty snaps from a post-wedding styled shoot we did with them, complete with the cutest little red mini, red lips and red tulip flower crown! Let’s just say I had endless amounts of FUN with this couple!!!

Jason & Heather at The Litchi Orchard

Heather and Jason were married at The Litchi Orchard on a crisp Autumn day in April. This couple is kind, soft, gentle, super organized, and completely in love. It was a privilege to get to witness the way they interact with one another, and to see the beautiful way in which they brought their wedding together.

Once again this was an Orchard wedding in which friends and family came together to help, place, decorate and make pretty. I am smitten with the soft and romantic colours they chose for their day, the little details in their decor, the beautiful flowers, the way it all perfectly complimented the venue, and the way it represented their own unique love story so beautifully. This is a match made to last a life time.

A big thank you to Bron Fourie from Vanilla Photography for the beautiful images of this special day. Delicious and pretty cup cakes by Lemon Canary Bakery, Hair and Make up by Robyn Bowles, decor by Settings and Fine Words, flowers by Rose and Berry (available through Settings), and Catering by Tracey Brewis.

Graeme & Penny’s Botanical Wedding

Graeme & Penny celebrated their wedding at Makaranga Lodge in Kloof in November 2013. From the outset Penny knew she wanted something creative and different for her flowers and decor, and chose a botanical theme to reflect her venue’s surroundings. It was such a delight to get to work with Pen for her special day! It is always special to get to flex creative muscle and experiment with something new for a wedding - lots of texture, shades of green, natural fibers, touches of glass and a bucket of candle light to soften off the edges. I loved working on this wedding!!!

An enormous congratulations to Graeme & Penny on their marriage, wishing you both a lifetime of adventure and happy memories!

Jared & Maritsa at Midlands Forest Lodge

Jared and Maritsa were married at Midlands Forest Lodge on a misty, icy cold Midlands day in September. Kloke and Mrs Kloke are good friends of ours, and it was both an honour and privilege to be a part of their very special day. We had great plans to set up their ceremony space on the lawn outside with hay bales for friends and family to sit on so we could all enjoy the spectacular view of the berg that this pretty little venue offers, but the weather had other plans, so in typical unfazed Jared and Maritsa style, they simply moved the ceremony into the reception venue and had a sensational day anyway!

This was a hands on friends and family wedding, with everyone getting involved with the set up and decor. Close family friends made the beautiful bunting and table runners, flowers by Adore Weddings, assisted by many willing hands, food by friends and family, hair and make up by Maritsa’s lovely cousin, and photography by close friend and wildlife photographer Chris Hall.

I love how much fun this couple had both with their wedding planning and on the day, and how much love they have for their family, their friends and one another. This wedding is one for the record books, when we left the festivities at 5.30 am the next morning, the party was still going strong!

Enjoy this special little wedding friends, and have a beautiful day x

Bunches of Pretty

November weekly deliveries: bunches of Snow-on-the-Mountain, Sweet Sarah rose sprays, kol-kol and white stocks. Sweet, pretty and fresh!

Ray & Susan at The Litchi Orchard

Susan has a smile to light up the darkest room. She is warm, open hearted and just lovely. Ray is her perfect match, and watching the two of them together was nothing but a joy. Theirs is a story of sheer love.

Once again we had a Litchi Orchard wedding which was all about friends and family coming together to help decorate, put in place, make pretty and share love. I loved the teal under tone throughout this wedding, the suspended birds, the old books and the beautiful flowers. Susan has gorgeous taste, and it carried through to her exquisite dress and bold gold statement piece necklace. More than anything I loved the way this wedding was a reflection of this couple, their style and their love for one another. Beautiful photography by the lovely Bron from Vanilla Photography - thank you for your images!

Ray and Susan, well done to you and your lovely friends and families for creating such a happy, beautiful, warm wedding. I wish you both a beautiful life together full of warm memories, good laughter and deep joy.

Enjoy friends x

Brad & Michelle at The Litchi Orchard

One of the things I love most about Litchi Orchard weddings is that friends and family are always an integral part of the entire wedding process, from set up to decor and flowers. There is always a real sense of community and love. Michelle and Brad’s was just such a wedding and the results are spectacular! I absolutely loved the decor at this wedding; whimsical, eclectic and oh-so-pretty!

Close family friend Les Slater headed up their set up team and pulled together a truly beautiful day full of detail, colour and love. Hair and Make up was done by the very talented Robyn Bowles with whom I got to work on our Secret Garden Shoot. Beautiful photography by the lovely Fiona Clair Photography.

Spring day was the perfect date to celebrate this styled shoot at the beautiful Benvie Gardens in the Karkloof. Ronny & Nats at Netherwood Part 2

Part 2 of this Beautiful Big Fat Portuguese Wedding, which was a day of love, a day of warmth and a day honouring the beauty and importance of family. Such a beautiful, loving, happy day.

Make sure you see all the pictures to the end. Jacki captured some INCREDIBLE dance moves from some of Nats and Ronny’s youngest guests - they literally defied gravity! I’ve never witnessed anything like it, wow!

Ronny & Nats at Netherwood Part 1

If I had to try sum this wedding up in three key points they would be: it was a day of love, it was a day about family and in spite of the weather it was a genuinely warm day.

Ronny, Nats and I first met at their initial Netherwood viewing and it felt as though we had known each other for years. By the end of their viewing, Nats and I had visualized her entire wedding (including lots of pretty and clouds of baby’s breath in the venue). Their wedding planning process was a dream. We laughed together, cried together, planned and dreamed together and came to love one another like family. It has been a privilege, an honour and a pure delight to be a part of this journey. These are two of the most warm hearted, kind and generous people I have come to know.

Both Ronny and Nats come from beautiful big Portuguese families. Nats referred to her big day as her “Big, Fat Portuguese Wedding” from start to finish. For anyone who has not yet had the joy of being a part of a Portuguese wedding, let me share a little: family and friends are sacred; love and affection are an integral part of this community make up; good food, good drink and good times are celebrated with the whole heart; and every single guest there was just so proud and so happy for our bride and groom. I love this couple, I love their family, I love their friends and I LOVED witnessing the respect, love and joy throughout this special day.

Their ceremony was one of the most warm, personal, reverent and beautiful I have had the honour of witnessing; and was conducted by their family Priest, Father Gerhard. Nats looked breathtaking in her custom made dress and cathedral length veil (complete with her and Ronny’s initials worked into the train half way down - a beautiful touch), and one of my favorite parts of their ceremony was that there was not one dry eye from either Ronny nor his 8 groomsmen as she walked down the aisle. I admit that I’d been doing pretty well until that moment and had to make use of a strategic hanky too …

Enjoy this celebration of laughter, love and light friends. Beautiful images by Jacki Bruniquel.

Admired in Africa Award

An enormous congratulations to my very dear friend, Jacki Bruniquel for being awarded the Admired in Africa Photographer 2013 award! Admired in Africa is an exclusive, invitation only directory that profiles the top wedding photographers in Africa. To illustrate just how prestigious this award is, have a look at the excerpt from their website below:

Every year we host the largest wedding photography competition on the continent, judged by some of the leading industry experts. The Admired Awards is part of our commitment to honoring wedding photographers who are creating modern compositions and taking wedding photography in new directions.

This year Admired in Africa held their first competition, for which photographers were required to submit images in a variety of categories. Graham & Sarah at Netherwood Part 1

Graham and Sarah’s Provence inspired Netherwood wedding was a sensory feast! Sarah put great thought and care into each detail of her wedding, and utilized no less than five decor suppliers to create the perfect look and feel for her special day. Her exquisite flowers were hand picked and beautifully arranged by Di at Boston Ivy to create a truly romantic feel throughout the space. An abundance of sensational food by Jacqui Rey and her team at Food Matters, and a selection of perfectly paired wines kept flowing throughout the day, more than satisfying even the most demanding palate. African Gypsy Jazz and the Mark Beiling Band kept guests entertained from start to finish … and then there was the dress. Oh the dress! I still get giddy and giggly when I see pictures of it! It was a Pronovias work of art with layers of tulle, feathers and a full ballgown skirt. Sarah looked sensational as a bride - exactly the way you imagine a bride would look!

Enjoy this visual feast friends! Images by Jacki Bruniquel. Part 2 coming soon!

Picnic Harvest Styled Shoot

OK, are you ready for this? I am so excited to share these images by Dean Maber, one half of the awesome Maber team and husband to Samantha Maber - both extraordinary photographers. Dean and I decided to collaborate on a styled shoot over the course of a dinner, and a few weeks later this is what we pulled together! Many thanks to the incredible team of people involved: Stationery by Rocket Designs, sensational cakes and apple pies (we ate those pies after the shoot and I thought I was going to melt with delight) by Lemon Canary Bakery, make up by the incredibly talented Pam McNeil from Pamjam Make-Up Artist, seriously gorgeous dresses from Belle & Bravado, photography by Dean Maber (assisted by his wife Sam), concept, styling, flowers and decor by Adore Weddings and Events and our very kind models Kerry Hedges and Simon Wilkes who put up with our antics and played along with all the fun. Thank you to everyone who was involved for an absolutely wonderful day, and a beautiful shoot! A very big thank you to Dean Maber for the beautiful images. Hope you all enjoy friends ♥ x

Ronny & Nats Engagement Shoot

Nats and Ronny get married next week (hooray), so I feel it is very fitting to post their engagement shoot pics today. It is one of my greatest joys to get to meet special people who are completely in love and who have decided to make the beautiful commitment to spend the rest of their lives together, and to then be invited to be a very small part of their beautiful journey! Nathalie Lopes and Ronny da Silva are two such people. I had the privilege of meeting them well before I finished at Netherwood and it has been my delight to be involved in their wedding planning since then! I just adore this couple. They are warm, loving, generous and gentle. Nat’s favorite colour is yellow and she loves pretty spaces, so it was very easy to find the perfect location for their engagement shoot - a field of sun hemp right across the road from our house. My incredibly talented friend Jacki Bruniquel was the genius behind the lense (amazing work as usual) and was assisted by Tash and Stew. The beautiful Make up and Hair was by Charelle McAllister, one of the softest and most lovely artists I’ve had the joy of working with. Styling, flowers and flower crown by Adore Weddings and Events. Thank you to everyone involved for a magically beautiful day. Nats and Ronny, I am so excited for your wedding next week! It is going to be magical. All my love x

Josh & Nix’s Umhlanga Wedding

Nix and Josh were married at their home Church in Umhlanga in a ceremony rich in beauty and the Spirit. To this special couple, the most important part of their day was that they celebrated their beautiful commitment to one another with all their most precious people, and that they glorified God every step of the way. I love the predominantly documentary style Dean Maber used on their day, and love how well the relaxed, loving, happy essence of this wedding is captured and shared through these images. Friends and family contributed wherever possible, with flowers being brought from gardens and put together with love. The delicious food and bar was provided by their good friend Darryl from Whole Foods. Bouquets and seating were provided with delight by Adore Weddings. This day really captured the essence of what a wedding is all about - a loving commitment between a man and woman, witnessed and celebrated with love by their special family and friends. Just beautiful x

Brett & Zara at Netherwood

How do you put pure, sweet, genuine love into words? I’m not sure that I have the ability, so in stead I will describe some of my creative wedding planning journey with Zara and Brett in the hope that it will paint something of a picture of these lovely humans.

Za and I have known one another for years. We are both farm kids from a very special farming community called Eston, went to good old Eston Primary School, were raised by an entire community (Eston rocks that way), and landed up in the Midlands as grown ups. When Zara and Brett finally got engaged after dating for SEVEN YEARS, they came to see me at Netherwood for a viewing … the rest is, as they say, history. Planning their wedding with them was the beginning of our re-connection as adults, and it has been a blast! Zara and Brett are two people I just love!

I first knew I was one lucky lady to be a part of this couple’s wedding team on their styled engagement shoot with Jacki Bruniquel, Kym & Me and Floey on Brett’s family farm where they have settled and made their home. This was not a day of work, it was a day of laughter, delight, joy, excitement, deep love, incredible hospitality and celebration! Brett and Zara opened their hearts and home to us, made us feel beyond welcome, and spoiled us post-shoot with the kind of hospitality and generosity I grew up with. It really was like coming home to family. The rest of our journey continued along the same vein, with many a “wedding planning” telephone call extending well past the necessary wedding related discussions because we were in fits of laughter about something or the other. It is a joy to say that Brett and Zara have become incredibly close and special friends throughout our journey.

This was one of those weddings where every single guest was just so happy that two such special people were making this beautiful commitment to one another. It was a genuine celebration of joy and love … and being an Eston wedding in the Midlands, it was one hang of a party too!

BMW International Polo Series South Africa vs. Chile

The BMW International Polo Series brought us a brilliant South Africa vs. Chile match, which was held on a chilly Sunday at Shongweni in August 2013. Adore Weddings and Events in partnership with South African Polo Association hosted the first ever Durban East Bank Box Sites based on the hugely successful Box Sites in JHB; 10 seater sites located right on the center line on the East bank of the Shongweni field. These are the closest sites to the action, and the views were thrilling! This was a close match, ending in a draw. It was such a lovely way to spend the end of a weekend; with plenty of excitement, action and glamour available. Box Sites will once again be available in 2014. Enjoy friends x

Brent & Beth at Freedom Cafe

Brent and Beth are South Africans living and working in Mozambique. They decided to come home to get married and celebrated one of the most chilled, relaxed, happy weddings I’ve been involved in at Freedom Cafe. They held their ceremony in the park alongside Freedom Cafe. We hung giant paper pom poms from a big tree above their ceremony space, surrounded guest seating with bold, happy arrangements in copper pots on tree trunks and guests were given capulanas (gorgeous, boldly printed fabric available from Mozambican markets) to sit on picnic style. Chilled, fun and happy! Post ceremony, trays of amazing food and superb cocktails were served by the Freedom team, and everyone spent a long, lazy afternoon chatting to good friends and family, and dancing the evening in.

I adore this couple and I loved their easy-going, relaxed, personalized and fuss free wedding. It was a day that truly reflected their personal story and personalities. Beth’s pre-wedding brief to me was that she wanted flowers that were BRIGHT, a bouquet that was BIG and colours that were HAPPY, and that she completely trusted me to make it happen. What and incredible bride! All my love to you both Brent and Beth. I wish you a lifetime of adventure, joy and love together.

A very big thank you to Lucy and her brilliant Freedom cafe team for being so easy going and lovely to deal with. Nothing was too much of a fuss for you guys, it was a pleasure! Hair and Make Up by the lovely Charelle McAllister. Enjoy these lovely images by Gabrielle’s Photography friends x

Brett & Zara’s Engagement Shoot

I absolutely love this couple. I’ve had the joy of knowing Zara since we were kids, she is force of delight and has one of the happiest and most generous hearts I know. Brett is her perfect partner; kind, gentle, compassionate, quiet … with a delightfully wicked little spark that makes you laugh in the best way! We had the privilege of working with them on their engagement shoot, shot on Brett’s family farm. Our creative team was made up of Jacki Bruniquel - the creative genius behind the lense, assisted by the lovely Tash. Flowers by my dear friend Floey Vanderplank who is now based in Kenya … any Kenyan brides do yourselves a favour and book her for your wedding this minute! Hair and make up by Kym of Kym Hair-Make Up - you have never met a bubblier, more entertaining, enthusiastic or energised force in your life, she is superb to have on your team! And decor / styling by Adore Weddings & Events. What a fantastic shoot! Enjoy friends x

P.S: Zara & Brett’s weddings pictures will be coming soon! Watch this space … theirs was a wedding to remember!

Luis & Nicole’s Enchanted Forest Engagement Shoot

I am completely thrilled with how beautifully this shoot turned out! Jax and I dreamed up this fun, different, mysterious and romantic Enchanted Forest engagement shoot for the loveliest couple, Luis and Nicole’s engagement shoot. The shoot was based at Bishop’s Seat in Eshowe’s Dlinza Forest, and we were very blessed to get to work with some of our favorite friends in the wedding industry.

A very big thank you to the dream team: Jacki Bruniquel and her assistant Tash for the photography, Drew Christie from Evolve for the AWESOME hair, Charelle McAllister for once again working her magic with make up, Stu for being the general run around slave labour / problem solver / fire maker / heavy lifter and extra set of hands, Nikita Shaye Singh from Love & Cheese for the beautiful cheese cake, Tracey Laubscher from Olivelli Durban for the stunning black wedding dress, and the team from The George Hotel in Eshowe for their awesome hospitality. And most of all, thank you to Luis Dos Santos and Nicole Carreira for being such stars and putting up with our creative antics! Blessings to you both for your wedding in February, I can’t wait to see your wedding pics! Styling, decor and flowers by Adore Weddings and Events.

Matt & Jacqui’s Video

Here is Matt & Jacqui’s wonderful wedding video by James Gibbs Studio. James and his team have perfectly captured this rainy, wonderful, fun, vivacious wedding! Their harlem Shake flash mob is captured in all it’s crazy glory at the end of the film. Don’t miss it out! Enjoy friends x

Matt & Jacqui at Netherwood

Matt and Jacqui’s rocking Netherwood was, in the bride’s own words, ‘cray cray’! Bright colours, statement decor and bold copper accents abounded, the perfect reflection of this bride with an enormous personality and her dashing groom. I especially loved the copper owls which Jacs and Matt had collected for months in the prelude to their wedding. Jacqui’s Granny, with whom she was very close, had always collected owls, and Matt and Jacs wanted to honour her by having these little symbols of her love on every guests table. Such a beautiful touch … and yes I did get teary-eyed when they shared the symbolism of this gesture!

Jacs is a renowned make up artist, see her work here. I have had the joy of working with her on weddings for years, so to say I was delighted when asked to be a little part of her wedding is an understatement! I knew this was going to be a cracker of a wedding, and I wasn’t wrong. In my entire life I have never seen a bride work that dance floor the way Jax did. One of my wedding highlights has got to be the Harlem Shake flashmob by the bridal party and company. You’ll get to see them in action here, compliments of James Gibbs Studio. All the beautiful photography was done by my very clever friend Kate van Onselen. Hair and make up for the entire bridal party was done by none other that the bride, Jacqui of Accentuate! Bold I tell you, bold. Enjoy the fun friends.

P.S: The weather on their weddings day was miserable, so the very generous Kate did a post wedding styled shoot with Jacs and Matt - I adore the shot of Jacs on the step ladder! And her rocking orange shoes, delight!
