Adore Weddings & Events Celebrating Laughter, Love & Light

Industry Love

Anyone who knows me knows how much I just utterly adore my job. Being a part of someone’s special day, walking alongside them through their wedding planning process, the privilege of getting to know them, very often building a new friendship along the way, celebrating their ups and downs and then getting to design and create amazing beauty especially for the celebratory start of their marriage to one another,it is an incredible honour and joy. I LOVE what I do. That being said, it is hard work. Often it is crazy hard work. Long hours, deep sacrifice, often having to be an unconventional parent and spouse, bone deep exhaustion … it’s definitely not always sunshine and flowers … hearing kind, honouring words from an industry friend is like being given an enormous hug at the end of a long day ❤

I have so much respect for the wedding co-ordinators/florists/decor people of our industry. On Wednesday they are at the market with a team and multiple vehicles to collect the order, afternoon they are prepping flowers, Thursday and Friday their team is at the venue setting up - hard labor! Saturday they are co-ordinating the event, until late at night. Sunday they are clearing, cleaning and packing up. They are lucky if they get to their families on Sunday afternoon. Monday and Tuesday are the only days left for admin (emails, meetings, invoicing, stock take, marketing etc etc) Where do they get time off???? They work so much harder than you will EVER know. Thank you for making the weddings that we photograph run smoothly and look so beautiful. THANK YOU! .

This is the ever so lovely Carolyn and Maxine of Adore Weddings and Events doing their thing for Gen Fletcher.”

Derryn Scmidt thank you for this awesome moment, and thank you for your words! Getting to do work (and life, and motherhood, and friendship) with you is such a delight. We love working together with you and fellow wedding friends like you to create magic and share love … also, we get to create for such incredible people, and play with beautiful flowers … what is not to love about our jobs?

Jon & Jess Wedding Getting Ready

What a perfect way to start a wedding day … it was a morning of laughter, love and light! The friendship and warmth between everyone involved in this wedding was beautiful. It is one of our great joys to be witness to very special relationships between friends and family, and to celebrate a beautiful day with them. And what a glorious space to celebrate this special day in! Wychwood is simply beautiful. Who wouldn’t want to get married on a flower farm in the Midlands?

I’ve know Jon and his family since varsity days. It was such a happy surprise when I found out he and Jess had booked Wychwood for their special day, and it was such a pleasure to get to know Jess during their planning process. Jon my friend, you have done well!

I loved Jess’s beautiful decor and flowers. Ribbon curtains in shade of pink, elegant table settings, king protea (grown on Wychwood farm), and touches of silver and glass. Soft, romantic, absolutely beautiful!

Raj & Parrot aka Neil & Tash’s Mexican Day of the Dead Barn Wedding!

There are three words that can be used to sum this wedding up: this wedding was fun, this weddings was happy, this wedding was COLOUR! This wedding will also be forever be known as the wedding with the all time best dance shot ever!

And now for a few words from the bride:

The humans who made it happen

When the hunt for a place of celebration began, we knew that it was going to be a difficult one. We were after a great, big, old, empty shed. A big thank you to the Mckenzie’s, who had no care in the world to allow 90 strangers to party the night away in their actual tractor shed, on their working farm in Lions River, KZN Midlands. A very massive thank you to this family for allowing us to cause havoc on their farm. To everyone who helped empty the shed, clean the area, move the crazy heavy wagon, roll the ant infested cable drums and move the countless bales of hay, a great big thank you.

The build a burger menu and bar was done by Paula Mckenzie. From a very satisfied crowd of people, thank you very much for taking on such a massive task with your crazy schedule. We appreciate the time you dedicated to us and the effort you made to bring it all together.

The vodka portion of the bar was proudly sponsored by the Polish contingent.

My sunshine, Carolyn McNeil from Adore Weddings
You really were my sunshine, when things were crazy and the dark clouds came over, you simply smiled and all was good again. Your positivity and “get it done with a smile on your face” attitude made all the very stressful, crazy, chaotic situations seem like it was nothing but a glass of spilt milk. Thank you so much for being someone that added to the happiness of our day. We simply “Adore” you.

The little helper. Ash, assistant to sunshine, we could not have pulled this off without her. Thank you for stepping in and taking charge. Your creative eye and organizing skills made the day possible. Thanks for partying the night away with us and sharing our happiness.

The flowers, décor, lighting and overall pretty stuff was a massive collaboration between Sunshine, Ash, Woogy, our two amazing families and us (human and me).

The fabulous Drew Christie, from San Marco Hair Umhlanga, was responsible for my awesome haircut. The chances of finding another human as wonderful as Drew would be like looking for a needle in a haystack, your chances are slim. Thanks my Drew for making me feel like a million and two bucks.

My old friend Lauren Badenhorst, from Jeans Hair Salon, was the initial creator of the parrot hair colours, so it only seemed logical that she did the colour for the Raj and Parrot day. Many thanks Chippie, you really do bring colour to my life.

The lady who fixed my face and styled my hair, Lindsay Nixon. You rock! Would not have chosen anyone else. You made me feel so beautiful on a day where it mattered the most to me, thank you so very much.

Many years ago Ciociu Ella became “The Chosen One” (the lady to make the D Day dress). My Ciociu Ella managed to untangle my ideas and create the perfect witches dress, in less than a month. It is something I will cherish forever, thank you my ciociu.

The sexy man of the hour was wearing a Pierre Cardin Tux, with a bit of improvising.

DJ Ross got thrown in the deep end when he got stuck with us lot, but he managed to swim very successfully. You did a great job keeping up with the Polish, Afrikaans and rock song combinations. Thanks for “Just rolling with it.”
The lady who made it official, Bernice Scott. You guided us through the complicated and overwhelming, but most exciting time of our lives, and we will cherish your pearls of wisdom. Thank you for your kind words and for making us official. We are REALLY happy about it!

The people who had to endure us for the months leading up to our big day, the people who had to work as slaves, the unsung heroes of the awesome day , our families and a few friends. You guys are our heroes! You not only helped, but were the biggest part of our day of happiness. We love you plenty.

Team Polska: Dziękuję z głębi serca za to, że tam, aby dzielić się niesamowity dzień. Twoje stroje były niesamowite.

The memory makers, Jax and Miss Swan Jacki Bruniquel

Miss Swan, you are great! Thank you plenty for your hard work and being part of our day of complete happiness. You are such a trooper, with no task or challenge to outrageous. You really are like a bull in a China shop, but a pretty one.

My Jax, you rock!!!!! No one would have caught that dance shot, but you. Thank you from the bottommost, squishiest part of my heart for capturing the day where my heart almost stopped from happiness. These pics are so much more than a memory to us, they tie us to you forever and that makes them even more spectacular to us. We cannot thank you enough for capturing our happiness and sharing the day with us, crying with us, laughing with us and partying like we did in Goa. Thank you our special person, we love you plenty.

My human, thank you for a day better than the one in my imagination. I am so grateful and totally ecstatic to finally be your lady (officially). Life with you by my side is going to rock!!! Love you plenty my bug.

Mike & Lara’s Gorgeous Greek-Kenyan Wedding: Part 1

I have been saving this wedding up to share with you for some time. I adored everything about this special celebration; from the very first time I met Lara to discuss her wedding, to our countless cups of tea and chats, to sharing ideas and getting excited, to the actual incredible day itself. Here is part 1 of this lovely wedding, put together by a team of incredibly talented artists an captured beautifully by Jacki Bruniquel. Enjoy this day of delight friends xxx

Below are some words about the day from Mike and Lara:

From the start of the day waking up at the crack of dawn with excitement, to eventually heading to bed after an amazing day it truly was the happiest day of our life! Weddings truly are so special as you are surrounded by only your very special friends and family! With advice from several people we truly savored every moment of the day together, and we made sure that at times we snuck off alone just to take everything all in and realize just how lucky we are to not only have found each other but also by the loved ones that surround us. During the day everyone kept asking us how we felt and this made us think we should have been more stressed or nervous, but we both simply felt so happy, relaxed and excited for the day ahead and we both just could not wait to marry our best friend and soul mate!

Our wedding had a lot of symbolic and sentimental meanings to us within the decor. The acacia trees represent where I was born and brought up in Kenya, our farm is surrounded by acacia trees. All of the roses came all the way from Kenya from my Dads rose farm. The white butterflies where in remembrance of Mixalis special Mum, he always believed that she came back as a beautiful butterfly.

We can’t thank everyone enough, we truly had our dream team when it came to our suppliers, of which Jacki, Carolyn, Floey and Drew have become very special to us also as friends now. Our friends and family have been incredible and will always be treasured. The biggest thank you is to our parents, without them we would be nothing, they are our everything, and they made this special day possible, we love you from the bottom of our hearts. Lastly each other, we are grateful every day that our paths of life crossed and now we begin our special journey through life together for an eternity.

Big love and hugs to everyone that was there for our special day and also for those that could not make it, we love you all.

Mixali and Lara

Mitch & Martyne’s Bohemian Wedding - The Ceremony

In honour of her Mother, Martyne chose to celebrate their nuptials following the Jewish tradition. I love the personal, precious touches they included in the ceremony, including all the yammi’s being hand made by Martyne’s special nanny who she has loved since childhood, and the very thoughtful hand fans and bottles of water provided by the venue. I loved how relaxed and intimate this ceremony was, and as a non-Jew, it was exquisite to learn of the symbolism of some of the rituals. What a beautiful ceremony! I shed more than a few tears for this one!

Mitch & Martyne’s Bohemian Wedding - Getting Ready

Sometimes you meet a bride with whom you are totally in tune, and from day one you share a connection that makes the planning process joy not work. Mart gave me a call one afternoon saying she’d read an article about me and she wanted ME to do her wedding! After Mart sharing her vision for a bohemian wedding over an hour long phone call we said goodbye, and I felt as though I had made a new best friend. I have adored every minute of both the planning and execution of this beautiful wedding. Mich and Mart, I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness! Thank you for the gift of being able to be completely creative with your wedding and for the delight of getting to know you! Be blessed beautiful people xxx
